“TWO RIVERS OF HISTORY” a Bicentennial Celebration written
by Tom Kieran Egan, is a visual presentation of the converging
history of America and Vermont from 1775 to 1791.
The dual histories are presented in 83 vivid pages as Vermont and
American rivers flowing through the years. Both are shown
individually and with joining branches. At brief intervals individual
events are noted in text and illustrations as the rivers mend their way
through time, giving specify information of those moments in history.
The American “river” begins its descent May 10,1775 listing the
Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia that produced the
Declaration of Independence. The Vermont “river” begins its descent
on May 10, 1775 as well, describing the Green Mountain Boys, under
Ethan Allen, capturing Fort Ticonderoga.
The concept is a fascinating one. It allows the reader to follow each
“river, that of America as a nation, and Vermont as an independent
State, illustrating both their numerous independent and conjoining
experiences throughout the years ending in 1781. It is an exceptional
concept highlighting the growth of this Country
